CAN I USE AN INDOOR TV OUTSIDE?
It is important to understand "indoor" TVs are not designed to be exposed to the outdoor elements or practical for outdoor viewing. From electrical hazards, to poor viewing experiences and delicate parts we can not stress enough not to use a regular TV outdoors. With their durable and weatherproof design, all weather televisions can withstand extreme temperatures and precipitation, so you can enjoy your favorite shows and sporting events no matter what mother nature throws your way. The high-quality picture also ensures that you won't miss a single minute of the action. Whether you're throwing a party or just lounging by the pool, an outdoor TV is a must-have for any outdoor enthusiast.
WHICH OUTDOOR TV DO I NEED?
Full shade, partial sun, full sun? What's the deal with all those different terms? How big of a screen do I need for outside viewing? Do I need a cable box? Can I stream services like Netflix or Hulu and play video games? Don't worry we are here to help you understand everything you need to know and always available to answer your questions that may not be outlined on this page.
FULL SHADE
What's a full shade outdoor TV?
For those who have been looking for an affordable outdoor TV to enjoy some sports, look no further than a full shade outdoor TV. A fully-shaded area will ensure that there isn't any direct sunlight coming into contact with your television so you can enjoy streaming events or listening in on live broadcasts without worrying about fading image quality due too high levels of exposure!
PARTIAL SUN
A Partial Sun TV is the perfect solution for those who have an outdoor area that sometimes allows sunlight to shine directly onto the television screen or line of sight, but not always. The TV needs automatic brightness adjustments so it can adapt accordingly throughout different times of the day without losing image quality. Unless you go with a full sun TV set, too much light could damage your set!
FULL SUN
Premium outdoor TV's are designed with a Full Sun feature. This means it will be able to perform awesome where both your outdoor TV and viewing area are unshaded, open and exposed to the Sun. This is the most challenging sunlight situation for an outdoor TV but thankfully manufacturers today perfected outdoor television technology for any environment. Let us come help you decide!
WHAT ABOUT TV SIZE, RESOLUTION AND SOURCES?
Now that you have a better understanding of how the sun will effect your TV and you have picked out the best location to install it, let's discuss size and resolution. Keep in mind, you don't need the largest screen or highest resolution especially if you and your guests will be seated nearby. To make sure everyone's happy no matter where they're sitting though- we would recommend going with something between 50"–75". This gives you plenty of budget options with an exceptional viewing experience. Obviously the further away you are, the larger the screen you will need and the closer you are the higher the resolution you may want.
Resolution is the number of pixels vertical followed by “p” (progressive) or "i" (interlaced). For example, 720p or 1080i represent HDTVs that have slightly more than 1 million different dots per horizontal line. This produces an excellent picture quality for outdoors especially when sitting close up, but can still be ok for others, it really does come down to preference. It is not hard to find gigantic screens with 4k capabilities, however the price will increases exponentially as the size and resolution increase. Because it is outdoors and usually viewed from a greater distance than inside televisions, resolutions become less important. If you are looking just for the largest size and do most of your viewing at night then you may want to consider an outdoor theater. These have a wide price range as well using a projector and projection screen. This set up however will not perform well in daylight with current technologies.
Fortunately with today's tech, sources are not a difficult discussion. Even the most inexpensive outdoor TV's are smart! This means having all your streaming services built right in along with Wi-Fi. These sets also have a wide variety of inputs to accommodate gaming consoles or even a cable box. There is never a shortage of content to watch and listen to with all of those features!
WHAT ABOUT SOUND?
Just as important as a large vivid screen is being immersed with incredible sound. Smarter Home Solutions offers a complete outdoor speaker solution or even an outdoor soundbar to make sure everyone can hear and see the action perfectly. All of the outdoor TVs we recommend have a built in speaker but just like your indoor TV, manufacturers like to keep TV's thin which can lead to disappointing audio. There just isn't enough depth in televisions to accommodate loudspeakers. Having an outdoor speaker system also allows for a better sound field. When you only have a single speaker it can be too loud for those next to it, and difficult for others to hear who are further away. Call us to come out and evaluate your project and you will not be disappointed when it is complete. We can also install the TV and add speakers later if needed.
WHO MAKES THE BEST OUTDOOR TV'S?
Just like indoor televisions there are a lot of companies selling outdoor TV's and you want to choose one with a history of making quality products. Here are the top five brands we recommend, each one having it's own feature that separates it from the others. We are continuously looking at other options and look forward to hearing if you have a different favorite!
